Ninety years ago farmers had many of the same concerns experienced by those trying to make a living in the industry today. Thanks to the foresight of those agricultural forefathers, Kings County Farm Bureau was instituted to help meet the needs of farmers and ranchers while promoting and educating the industry within the community.
While farmers in 1918 had no clue to present day concerns, they certainly had their share including the federal government’s decision to start daylight savings that year. Many farmers didn’t own clocks, but worked from sunup to sundown. The time change forced dairymen to milk cows by lantern light in order to get their product to market on the milk train.
Frank Johnson served as the first KCFB president for one year, which was also punctuated with worries about WWI and the great influenza epidemic.
As in 1918 and the ensuing years up to the present time, Kings County Farm Bureau has worked diligently to serve the agricultural community and relies on its volunteer Board Members to provide leadership and direction.
The 90th Annual Meeting will commemorate those years of dedication and is an important time for the membership to join together to acknowledge their valuable support in furthering the work of KCFB. Please make plans to share this special anniversary on Thursday, April 24 in the
The no-host social starts at 5:30 with dinner served at 6:30. A live band will perform during a Celebrity Karaoke Auction, which will also provide music for the dance portion of the evening. The President’s Award winner and high school seniors receiving scholarships will also be announced.
Those interested in donating an item to the silent auction or decorating a table can call 584-3557. This year’s tables will be judged and the winner will receive a one year business supporting membership valued at $250.
